Chapter Verse/s Verse Summary
1. (1-3) There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job
(4-5) Job rose up early and offered burnt offerings
(6-12) The sons of God came to present themselves, Satan among them
(13-19) Job's livestock taken, sons and daughters killed
(20-22) The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away
2. (1-6) The Lord said to Satan, from whence comest thou
(7) Satan smote Job with sore boils
(8) He took him a potsherd to scrape himself, sat in the ashes
(9-10) Dost thou still retain thine integrity, curse God and die
(11-13) Job's three friends come every one from his own place
3. (1-10) After this Job opened his mouth and cursed his day
(11-12) Why died I not from the womb
(13-19) For now should I have lain still and been quiet
(20-24) Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery
(25) For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me
(26) I was not in safety, yet trouble came
4. (1-6) Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said
(7-9) Who ever perished being innocent
(10-11) The old lion perisheth for lack of prey
(12-16) Then a spirit passed before my face
(17-21) Shall mortal man be more just than God
5. (1) To which of the saints wilt thou turn
(2-5) They are crushed in the gate
(6-7) Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground
(8) Unto God would I commit my cause
(9-16) He disappointeth the devices of the crafty
(17-26) Behold happy is the man whom God correcteth
(27) Hear it, and know thou it for thy good
6. (1-3) Job, Oh that my grief were throughly weighed
(4) For the arrows of the Almighty are within me
(5-7) Things my soul refused to touch, my sorrowful meat
(8-10) Even that it would please God to destroy me
(11-13) What is my strength, that I should hope
(14) To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend
(15-30) My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook
7. (1-10) Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth
(11) I will complain in the bitterness of my soul
(12-16) Then thou scarest me with dreams, terrifiest me through visions
(17-21) And why dost thou not pardon my transgression
8. (1-2) Bildad, How long wilt thou speak these things
(3-7) If thou wert pure and upright, surely now he would awake for thee
(8-10) For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age
(11-19) So are the paths of all that forget God, hypocrites hope shall perish
(20-22) Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man
9. (1-4) Job answered, how should man be just with God
(5-13) If God will not withdraw his anger
(14-21) I would make supplication to my judge
(22-24) He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked
(25-28) I am afraid of all my sorrows, thou wilt not hold me innocent
(29-35) For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him
10. (1-17) Job, I will speak in the bitterness of my soul
(18-19) I should have been carried from the womb to the grave
(20-22) Let me alone, that I may take comfort a little
11. (1-4) Zophar, should a man full of talk be justified
(5-6) Oh that God would speak and open his lips against thee
(7-12) Canst thou by searching find out God
(13-19) Let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles
(20) But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape
12. (1-6) Job, ye are the people and wisdom shall die with you
(7-10) Who knoweth not, the hand of the Lord hath wrought this
(11-15) Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up
(16-25) He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them
13. (1-12) Surely I would speak to the Almighty, I desire to reason with God
(13-19) Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him
(20-28) Only do not two things unto me, then will I not hide myself
14. (1-2) Man that is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble
(3-6) Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean
(7-15) Man giveth up the ghost, and where is he
(16-22) My transgression is sealed up in a bag
15. (1-6) Eliphaz, Should a wise man utter vain knowledge
(7-10) Art thou the first man that was born
(11-13) Why doth thine heart carry thee away
(14-16) How much more abominable and filthy is man
(17-19) I will shew thee, which wise men have told
(20-35) Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity
16. (1-6) Job, miserable comforters are ye all
(7-14) God hath delivered me to the ungodly, hands of the wicked
(15-22) O that one might plead for a man with God
17. (1-10) I cannot find one wise man among you
(11-16) And where is now my hope
18. (1-4) Bildad, How long will it be ere ye make an end of words
(5-21) Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked
19. (1-7) Job, How long will ye vex my soul, break me in pieces with words
(8-19) They whom I loved are turned against me
(20-24) I am escaped with the skin of my teeth
(25-29) For I know that my redeemer liveth
20. (1-3) Zophar, Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer
(4-29) This is the portion of a wicked man from God
21. (1-6) Job, when I remember I am afraid
(7-13) Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, mighty in power
(14-16) Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us
(17-26) Shall any teach God knowledge
(27-34) How then comfort ye me in vain
22. (1-4) Eliphaz, Can a man be profitable unto God
(5-11) Is not thy wickedness great, iniquities infinite
(12-20) Is not God in the height of heaven
(21-30) If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up
23. (1-7) Job, Will he plead against me with his great power
(8-12) When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold
(13-17) For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me
24. (1-25) And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar
25. (1-6) Bildad, How then can man be justified with God
26. (1-4) Job, How hast thou helped him that is without power
(5-14) He stretcheth out the north over the empty place
27. (1-6) My lips shall not speak wickedness nor my tongue utter deceit
(7-12) That which is with the Almighty will I not conceal
(13-23) This is the portion of a wicked man with God
28. (1-11) The thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light
(12-22) where shall wisdom be found, where is the place of understanding
(23-28) Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom
29. (1-25) Oh that I were as in months past, when God preserved me
30. (1-31) But now they that are younger than I have me in derision
31. (1-40) Let me be weighed in an even balance
32. (1-3) Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite
(4-14) I am young, and ye are very old, durst not shew you mine opinion
(15-22) Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person
33. (1-12) I will answer thee, that God is greater than man
(13-22) For God speaketh once, yet man perceiveth it not
(23-30) For he will render unto man his righteousness
(31-33) Hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom
34. (1-4) Elihu, Hear my words, O ye wise men
(5-9) What man is like Job, drinketh up scorning like water
(10-15) Neither will the Almighty pervert judgment
(16-20) If now thou hast understanding, hear this
(21-30) For he will not lay upon man more than right
(31-33) If I have done iniquity, I will do no more
(34-37) My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end
35. (1-4) Elihu, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin
(5-8) If thou be righteous, what givest thou him
(9-13) Surely God will not hear vanity
(14-16) Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain
36. (1-4) Elihu, I have yet to speak on God's behalf
(5-16) Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any
(17-21) Beware lest he take thee away with his stroke
(22-33) Behold, God is great, and we know him not
37. (1-13) Elihu, Hear attentively the noise of his voice
(14-19) Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God
(20-24) Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out
38. (1-3) Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind
(4-11) Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth
(12-18) Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days
(19-21) Where is the way where light dwelleth
(22-30) Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow
(31-33) Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven
(34-37) Who can number the clouds in wisdom
(38-41) Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion
39. (1-4) Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth
(5-8) Who hath sent out the wild ass free
(9-12) Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow
(13-18) Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks
(19-25) Hast thou given the horse strength
(26) Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom
(27-30) Doth the eagle mount up at thy command
40. (1-9) Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him
(10-14) Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency
(15-24) Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee
41. (1-34) Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook
42. (1-6) Job, I know that thou canst do every thing
(7-8) God, my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept
(9) Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar did as commanded
(10-17) So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning
