Verse Summary |
1. | (1-3) | Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction |
| (4-5) | Ways of Zion do mourn, Lord afflicted her for transgressions |
| (6) | From the daughter of Zion her beauty is departed her |
| (7) | Judah remembered her pleasant things of old |
| (8-11) | Jerusalem hath grievously sinned therefore she is removed |
| (12-17) | See if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, none to comfort |
| (18) | The Lord is righteous, I have rebelled against his commandment |
| (19-20) | Behold, O Lord, I am in distress, I have grievously rebelled |
| (21) | Mine enemies...are glad that thou hast done it |
| (22) | Do unto them as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions |
2. | (1-4) | The Lord covered daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger |
| (5-8) | Lord was as an enemy, taken away his tabernacle, cast off altar |
| (9) | Her prophets also find no vision from the Lord |
| (10) | Elders of Israel girded themselves with sackcloth |
| (11) | Mine eyes do fail with tears, my bowels are troubled |
| (12-13) | Thy breach is great, who can heal thee |
| (14) | Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee |
| (15-16) | All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee |
| (17) | The Lord had done that which hath devised, fulfilled his word |
| (18-19) | Pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord |
| (20-22) | In the day of the Lord's anger none escaped |
3. | (1-8) | When I cry and shout he shutteth out my prayer |
| (9-13) | He hath turned aside my ways and pulled me in pieces |
| (14-17) | Thou hast removed my soul far off from peace |
| (18-20) | My strength and my hope is perished from the Lord |
| (21) | This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope |
| (22-24) | It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed |
| (25-31) | The Lord will not cast off for ever |
| (32-36) | For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men |
| (37-41) | Let us search and try our ways and turn again to the Lord |
| (42-47) | We have transgressed and rebelled, fear and a snare is come |
| (48-50) | Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction |
| (51-54) | Mine enemies chased me sore like a bird |
| (55-63) | O Lord thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul |
| (64-66) | Render unto them a recompence, give them sorrow of heart |
4. | (1-6) | Punishment of daughter of my people greater than that of Sodom |
| (7-9) | Those slain with sword better than those slain with hunger |
| (10) | The pitiful women have sodden their own children |
| (11-12) | The Lord hath accomplished his fury, poured out his fierce anger |
| (13-16) | Anger of the Lord hath divided them, he will no more regard them |
| (17-20) | We have watched for a nation that could not save us |
| (21) | Daughter of Edom, the cup also shall pass through unto thee |
| (22) | The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished ... Zion |
5. | (1-6) | Remember, O Lord what is come upon us, behold our reproach |
| (7-16) | Woe unto that us, that we have sinned |
| (17-18) | Our heart is faint, eyes are dim, mountain of Zion is desolate |
| (19-22) | Turn thou us unto thee, renew our days as of old |
